Inside Out (Mark 7.14-23)

Speaker: Derrick Leitão
Series: Mark
Sermon Info:
What is the source of the human problem? In our day and age, many Christians have become practical materialists believing that the problem is outside of us rather than within. Jesus’ answer is counter-cultural and reveals our dire need of a change that comes from God. And the actions we take must be what God has prescribed and provided for us.

Traditional Hypocrisy, Heartless Devotion (Mark 7.1-13)

Speaker: Derrick Leitão
Series: Mark
Sermon Info:
Having traditions is not a problem, until it rises to the level it should not. When it is exalted to the same level of importance as the word of God and his law or when we make our traditions a matter of salvation, which causes a barrier in our fellowship with one another, we would be resembling the Pharisees. Jesus says of these, “This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me …” Where is your heart? Near or far from God?

He Walks Alone (Mark 6.45-56)

Speaker: Derrick Leitão
Series: Mark
Sermon Info:
Jesus demonstrates himself to be the 100% perfect man, set apart from everyone else and he demonstrates himself to be 100% God, set apart from everything else and this establishes our faith. In him, we have every reason to take heart and not fear.

The Shepherd’s Feast (Mark 6.30-44)

Speaker: Derrick Leitão
Series: Mark
Sermon Info:
Our God is described in Scripture as a Shepherd (Ps. 23) and as a Shepherd he guides his sheep with teaching and he provides for their daily needs even when living in our modern day wilderness. And he will guide his sheep in a New Exodus through Jesus Christ.

The Rejection of the World (Mark 6.14-29)

Speaker: Derrick Leitão
Series: Mark
Sermon Info:
We come to the story of the beheading of John the Baptist. What was the reason for his beheading and how do we see this same hatred and bitterness in the world against the church? This was a precursor of the type of persecution the church would later face and is still facing today. And we don’t want to ignore the same signs of sin running its course in our lives as well.
